Almost Gone But Not Forgotten
In the brutal economic aftermath of the Civil War, simple rural churches like these emerged all across Georgia- the church becoming the center of the world for these rural farming communities.
Today, countless historic churches have been lost — leaving behind only haunting ruins and weed-covered cemeteries to remind us of days gone by. We believe these places are an important part of Georgia’s story. They show us where we came from, how we endured, and the communities that shaped our state. We are honored to hold space here that preserves their memory. They may be almost gone, but they won’t be forgotten. We invite you to pause and consider the rich history hidden beneath these decaying facades — places where rural communities worshipped, celebrated, mourned, and anchored their lives to the land.
