A Love Story: Glendale Chapel Methodist

A Love Story: Glendale Chapel Methodist

We first posted the photos of the little church in the Wildwood back in 2014.  At that time, the new owners Pat York and Annie Shields were just beginning the restoration process of a rapidly deteriorating African American church located back in the woods and far off the beaten path.  The story of Glendale Chapel Methodist is an uplifting one in many respects. The church was founded shortly after emancipation by those former slaves who had worked in the local plantations in the fertile Big Texas Valley, located in northwest Georgia near Rome.  Initial services were held in a brush arbor nearby, but land was donated by a local landowner for the purpose of building a more substantial building for the purpose of worship and education.
