Wolf Creek Baptist

Rabun County | Organized in 1851

Wolf Creek Baptist is one of the original churches established in Rabun County in the beautiful southern Appalachian Mountains. According to Sketches of Rabun County History, the church was founded in 1851 on land donated by Aaron I. Smith, with a small number of local residents and first pastor Rev. Morgan Woodall. The present sanctuary, built in 1901, is the fourth structure on this site. Though some modifications have been made over the years, but the wooden interior remains original to the 1901 construction.

Over the years, the little mountain church has struggled but managed to survive. The congregation was notably served for 28 years by Rev. J. W. Halcomb. Today, the church remains quite active under the pastorship of Rev. Michael Rogers. In 2026, the congregation celebrated the church's 175th anniversary.

The church graveyard contains many old fieldstone markers and 214 documented interments according to Find A Grave. The beautiful hillside cemetery includes veterans of the Civil War, WWI, and WWII, with the oldest graves dating from the mid-1800s.
