Pilgrim’s Rest Primitive Baptist
Miller County | Organized in 1800
According to a local newspaper article written by Iva Tabb in 2015, Pilgrim's Rest Primitive Baptist held a homecoming meeting on November 14. The article states the church was established in 1800 and has been active for over 200 years. The earliest documentation comes from minutes dated 1811, which indicate that during these early years, Native Americans "lived along Spring Creek and were known to sit on the creek rocks along the bank and listen to the singing and preaching."

The article further noted that "during these days, the people had no money and the preachers were paid with lard and meat but very little money."
A local Miller County history book records that Pilgrim's Rest was a member of the Harmony Primitive Baptist Association in 1847 with eighteen members. The next record, taken from the 36th Annual Session of the Ocklocknee Association in October 1862, states that Pilgrim's Rest made a contribution of $2.00 and had a membership of seventeen. The history also notes that the pulpit and pulpit furniture were handmade by Rev. Drew Floyd.
Pilgrim's Rest Primitive Baptist is a historically significant Miller County church that has been active since the early 1800s. The building has been well maintained, and we are grateful for the current congregation's stewardship of this important piece of history.
